🗣 Getting Speakers for Events
I remember when I was asked to get a speaker in a community I previously managed, for an event we were holding.
I dug into my network and reached out to someone. I sent her the details of the event and she sent her media kit. This is just one of the ways you can get a speaker.
Now, if you are looking for surefire ways to get speakers for your community’s events, read on!
Network and referrals - When we harp on having a strong network, this is the advantage. Build relationships and also ask for referrals from people you are close to. Your fellow executive members can help here too.
Influencers in your field - Pros and old timers that have a wealth of experience are another avenue. They might be willing to speak or even give you excellent recommendations. Who doesn’t want to share their knowledge?
Re-book top past speakers - Ever had an event that the speakers were the bomb? You can ask them to grace your events again. Attendees who missed your last event (where these speakers were present) will be eager to attend your new one.
Ask the audience - It wouldn’t hurt to ask your community members who they would like to see at the event. Chances are such recommendations come from a place of interest and will likely be a hit. It gives them something to look forward to.
Research trending speakers - Who is everyone having on their speakers’ list? You don’t want to be left out on who the audience wants to see. So go ahead, do some research and hop on the rave.

I just saw a tweet where the poster said her support ticket was deleted by the community manager. The CM didn’t reach out to her offering an apology or explanation, he just deleted her ticket. Someone replied her that the CM needs a refresher course, to get his act right.
If as a CM you don’t have EMPATHY (which is a KEY skill, top 3), then your community and brand will bear the brunt of your actions. And what does that say about you in the long run? Your guess is as good as mine. Dear CM, please do better (if you fall in this category). Sigh.
