Moving your community from one platform to the other requires a seamless process. Things to avoid include; member churn, data loss, maximised downtime and difficult settling in.
Make your community migration easy with this step-by-step outline:
Pre-migration planning - Take note of your present platform’s features and make a comparison to the new one. Identify critical data, features and mergers that will need to be migrated.
Preparation stage - Evaluate the import requirements for your new platform, Some platforms supply an upload template or spreadsheet, which can be used as a guide in organising and formatting data precisely.
Communication - Early communication is paramount. It is ideal to begin telling your members 4-6 weeks before migration. Share updates, FAQs and brief tutorials, to acquaint them with the new environment.
Execution - Your data should be backed up before the D-day. Run test transfers to verify that the data migrates correctly and the new platform functions as expected. As this takes place, provide regular updates to stakeholders.
Post-migration - When you ascertain that everything is running smoothly, announce the big news with the comms team. Involve your members by giving training sessions, documentation and resources, so they can get used to the new environment.
Frequent check-ins can spot issues on time and give you insights on engagement and performance, with the use of monitoring tools.

Communities have different types of personas and it’s good to know the various types as a CM.
Referencing types of personas will make you have a feel of who your community members are and what makes your members tick. Striking the right balance is key for everyone in your community.
Make a copy first, so you can customise it without disrupting the arrangement.
Also, websites shouldn’t have access to your email address because you are trying to keep your email personal and limit access, right?
